# What to Do in the First Hour a Clip Takes Off

A clip picking up speed is a window that closes within about twenty-four hours. Five things, in this order, and two that actively cost you.

## 1. Reply to every comment, immediately

Comment activity in the first hours feeds the distribution, and this is the one moment where your replies materially change the outcome. Sentences, not emojis, and to everyone.

Cancel whatever you were doing. This is genuinely the highest-value hour available to an independent artist and it happens rarely.

## 2. Make sure the destination works

Check your bio link on a phone in a private browser. Check the pinned posts answer "what do they sound like". Check the song is actually available — a clip taking off for an unreleased track sends everyone somewhere with nothing to hear.

Two minutes, and it is the difference between a spike in views and a spike in listeners.

## 3. Post again within a few hours

A second clip from the same song, different section, same format. The audience arriving is looking for more of exactly that, and the profile they land on should have it near the top.

Do not switch to something unrelated. The people arriving liked one specific thing; give them a second serving of it before showing them your range.

## 4. Pin it, and pin the follow-up

Move the clip to your pinned posts so every profile visit lands on the thing that brought them. Move the second one next to it.

Then leave your other pins alone. This is temporary — swap back when the wave passes and the pins go back to doing their normal job.

## The two things that make it worse

Deleting and reposting to "restart" it — this throws away all the engagement history and almost never works. And immediately posting a hard sell, which converts an audience that liked something into an audience being advertised to.

Also worth knowing: it will drop. A clip that does ten times your normal numbers is not a new baseline, and expecting the next one to match is how people conclude they have failed after a success.

## Frequently asked questions

### What should I do when a music clip goes viral?

Reply to every comment immediately, check your bio link and pinned posts work, post a second clip from the same song within a few hours, and pin both. The window closes in about a day.

### Should I post something different while a clip is doing well?

No. The people arriving liked one specific thing — give them a second serving of it before showing them your range.

### Should I delete and repost a clip to boost it?

No. It throws away the engagement history that is driving the distribution and almost never works.
